Mounted Min-Till Air Seed Drills

When seeding, speed is a key factor. Your time is precious, the periods for drilling are short and costs must be reduced. This is why KUHN seed drills have been deigned to plant crops quickly and accurately.

MEGANT

Optimise your work output and reduce your costs without impacting the quality of your work! MEGANT mounted tine seed drills with working widths of 6.00, 7.20, and 8.00 metres, enable you to establish your crops quickly and uniformly on ploughed or min-tilled land.

A seed drill adapted to successful min-till seeding

Min-till seed drills, designed for minimum cultivation techniques, are the ideal solution for minimizing costs and charges relating to mechanization, crop establishment, and fuel consumption. These techniques prone shallow tillage in order to protect soil life and conserve the structure of the soil as well as limiting soil erosion and compaction. To this end, the KUHN range of min-till seed drills features:

  • the ESPRO seed drill, equipped with seedbed-preparation discs and the Crossflex seeding bar which ensures perfect seeding-depth control
  • the MEGANT seed drill, with tines capable of working in any conditions
  • the MAXIMA precision seed drill, equipped with a disc-coulter system

How to choose the right min-till seed drill?

Min-till seed drills make it possible to establish crops quickly and uniformly on pre-prepared plots or using min-till techniques, while reducing your costs. Min-till seed drills can be fitted with tine or disc seeding units.

Min-till seed drills with discs

Min-till seed drills with discs are renowned for precision and versatility. They are equipped with various working components:

  • a front press-wheel set which levels the topsoil
  • working discs that cut and mix crop residues into the soil as well as creating fine soil in preparation for seeding
  • a row of wheels that tamp the soil in front of the seeding unit
  • a seeding unit with offset double discs to open the furrow and deliver the seed at the required depth

Once closed, a press wheel tamps the furrow down to ensure soil/seed contact.

What advantages do seed drills with discs offer?

Seed drills with discs are suited to a great diversity of soil types and cropping methods. Depending on the discs used, they are able to work on ploughed, stubble-cultivated, or even shallow-tilled land. This versatility is also reflected in their capacity to cut crop residues which eliminates any risk of clogging when seeding in plant debris.

Seed drills with discs also produce excellent quality seeding at high working speeds while consuming less fuel. As a result, establishment costs are greatly reduced and your profits increased.

Min-till seed drills with tines

Seed drills with tines work the seeding line only. A tine opens the furrow and creates fine soil for the seeds to be placed into. The seeds are then covered with fine soil by a covering harrow. KUHN covering harrows can be double or combined with press wheels to improve soil/seed contact.

What advantages do seed drills with tines offer?

Min-till seed drills with tines are often mounted tools with light and compact designs. As such, they meet current environmental and economic challenges by seeding fast and consuming less fuel.

Being highly versatile, these seed drills are capable of high-quality seeding in various soil conditions: wet, dry, stony, or with residues. Consequently, they lengthen the seeding period because they can seed earlier or later in the season.

KUHN’s robust, special profile seeding tines require no maintenance so are a real cost-saving solution. They offer perfect stability and a constant seeding depth, even in stony ground. They also reduce the hairpinning phenomenon by clearing straw out of the furrow.

It is important to bear in mind, however, that the type of tine used will greatly affect seeding quality. That’s why KUHN offers three different types of tine: thin tines, reversible forward pointing coulters, and straight coulters. The 12 mm thin tines are robust and penetrate the soil easily while keeping soil and residue displacement in the seeding line to a minimum. This helps conserve the humidity in the soil.

The reversible forward pointing coulters are designed for efficient soil penetration. They are particularly suited to working on pre-tilled land. Lastly, the straight coulters are ideal for stony conditions due to their special shape which limits stones being brough up and optimises seed placement.
