Funding for farmers - grants available in 2024

Are you looking for grants to improve farm productivity with the latest equipment and technology but don’t know if the machine you are considering qualifies for the agricultural grant scheme in 2024?

With the latest Farm Equipment and Technology Fund in England and the Welsh Small Grants Scheme in Wales, designed to support farmers, there are several KUHN machines that are eligible for grant support towards the purchase cost. The grants and funding available have been set up to help growers, farmers, and land managers to apply for funding to access new machinery to improve the efficiency of farming operations and increase productivity and reliability of equipment.

The selected machines in England are the KUHN BV and BVR 100 and 1000 series, and TRP 175 tractor-mounted flail mulchers. For arable and grassland farmers, KUHN’s SH 4080 and SH 600 air drill hoppers for establishing cover crops are available for funding. 
In Wales, the selected KUHN Machinery include the Optimer L & XL, PerformerCultimer M100, L100 & L1000 and Striger 100.

Grants Available in England:

BV, BVR and TFR mulchers

BV, BVR and TRP mulchers

These machines are specialists in orchard, vineyard and agricultural maintenance for a wide range of grass and branches. The grant is designed to help fund up to 60% financial contribution towards the purchase cost of the machines listed.

FETF200 - Tractor-mounted flail mulcher for orchards and vineyards (large)

  • Expected average cost of item: £2,400
  • Grant percentage paid towards item: 60%
  • Grant amount (based on a quantity of 1): £1,440
  • Score: 56

Qualifying machines:

  • BV 160, 180, 200, 220 and 240
  • BV 1800, 2000, 2200, 2400 
  • BVR 160, 180 and 200 
  • BVR 1600, 1800, 2000 and 2200 
  • TRP 175 vineyard mulcher

The item must comply with the following requirements:

  • It is a tractor-mounted flail mulcher for orchards and vineyards
  • Powered by a tractor PTO
  • Ability to shred branches up to 6cm in diameter into woodchips
  • Available in a 1.6m minimum working width
  • Available in a 3m maximum working width

SH 4080 and SH 600

The SH 4080 (fitting the Espro 6000R) and SH 600 hoppers (fitting the Performer, Cultimer, Optimer and Prolander trailed machines) qualify for grant funding of up to 60% towards the cost of the item. The hopper allows existing drills to be fitted with a small seed hopper capable of establishing a cover crop.

  • Grant percentage paid towards item: 60%
  • Grant amount (based on a quantity of 1): £1,890
  • Score: 64

The item must comply with the following requirements to be able to apply:

  • It is a pneumatic (air) drill
  • Designed to mount on existing drills or soil tillage equipment
  • Equipped with electronic metering
  • Ability to drill small cover crop seeds
  • Equipped with pipes, coulters or spreader plates to place the seed
  • Operate a minimum 3m drilling width
  • Offers a seed hopper with a minimum 300l capacity

Grants available in Wales with the Welsh Small Grants Scheme:

Optimer L & XL, Performer, Cultimer M100, L100 & L1000 and Striger 100

Minimum Tillage/Cultivator

  • Expected average cost of item: £22,892
  • Grant value: £9,157

Qualifying machines:

The item must comply with the following requirements:
Multi-component one pass/reduced cultivation machine consisting of:

  • A minimum of three different soil engaging parts
  • Two of the soil engaging parts to be separate rows of either fixed tines, discs, loosening legs or spring tines.
  • Third soil engaging part must be a rear packer, crumbler, roller, rings or shouldered rings.
  • Minimum of 3m working width.
