The VARI-MASTER L is the new mounted plough designed and manufactured by KUHN. This new series with a neat and robust design fits between the MASTER 153 and 183 series for tractors from 200 to 300 hp. It combines power, reliability and quality of work to provide the best ploughing performance.
The VARI-MASTER L series retains the strengths that have made KUHN ploughs famous: variable width linkage integrated into the frame for optimal protection against impacts and corrosion, uneven-layer TRIPLEX mouldboards for 40% longer life and one-piece headstock to accept up to 300 hp. Available from four to six bodies, it also has many exclusives and a wide choice of equipment to meet the expectations of farmers and contractors alike. The VARI-MASTER L was created with the aim of becoming the new benchmark for high precision ploughing thanks to its simple and ingenious adjustments.

Pro-Set adjustment system

Ploughing comfort means a quick and constraint-free set-up of your plough. The VARI-MASTER L benefits from the "Pro-Set" system for a simple set-up. All tractors with a tyre to tyre distance from 1.15 m to 1.60 m can be rapidly adapted to. The indicator is visible from the cabin. With the "Pro-Set" system, the user is guaranteed perfect alignment at work thanks to the possible front furrow correction, limiting wear and facilitating traction. The VARI-MASTER L is perfectly balanced at work for effortless traction in all conditions.

Limited overhang without compromising on stability

The design of the VARI-MASTER L integrates the depth wheel closer to the frame to allow you to plough your entire field. Several wheel positions are available to best adapt to your ploughing constraints. Whether you have and extendable configuration or not, the lateral position of the wheel makes it possible to fully integrate it into the working width of the plough. The fields can be ploughed closer to the edges to limit weed propagation. For improved stability, the wheel can also be installed at the end of the beam to facilitate adjustment of the depth and improve the tractor's traction.

Optimal burial in all conditions with the 3D-Skim skimmer adjustment

KUHN exclusively offers the patented adjustment of the skimmers of the VARI-MASTER L "3D-Skim"; tool-free adjustment of the angle of attack. It guarantees improved quality of burial and flow of vegetation. The 3D-Skim adjustment is simple, fast and tool-free for a quick and constraint-free adaptation to all usage conditions. In a single operation, you simultaneously adjust the skimmer's working depth and angle of attack. The skimmer's profile is also key. This is why the VARI-MASTER L skimmer has an ergonomic shape to support and facilitate soil flow.

Work on land with ease

The new VARI-MASTER L plough is available in on land or in furrow version. The on land mechanism makes it possible to obtain excellent ploughing quality with tractors equipped with wide tyres (800 mm and more) or tracks. The tractor's power is maximised. On land ploughing helps to preserve soil conditions by not compacting the furrow bottom and limiting the creation of a plough pan. Shocks at each entry into the earth are significantly reduced, since it is no longer necessary to drop into the furrow and the tractor works flat. The on-land mode also makes it possible to work by GPS thanks to the auto-guidance of the tractor. The VARI-MASTER L On Land is highly adaptable thanks to its mechanism which offers the possibility of working on land or in furrow when conditions become more difficult.

Precise and tool-free adjustments

With the VARI-MASTER L plough you are sure not to waste time on tedious adjustments. KUHN brings the best conditions of use to its ploughs by a simple and precise start-up. Ploughing quality is easily improved thanks to the precision of the adjustments. It is possible to hydraulically control all the adjustments from the tractor cab. This option is strongly recommended if your soils are very heterogeneous, so that your ploughing depth can be instantly adapted to your working conditions. The fine and precise settings of the VARI-MASTER L allow you to save money by reducing fuel consumption and keeping your working parts safe from premature wear.

OptiDrive headstock

The headstock of the VARI-MASTER L is available in category 3N, 3 and 4N. With fixed coupling yokes, it is simple to couple the plough and easy to adjust the height of the lower coupling points to maximise the tractor's traction. The OptiDrive headstock makes it easy to switch between work/transport position. No need to unhook or adjust the top link for transport position.As well as simplifying work/transport transition, the OptiDrive headstock provides a shock absorption system. Fully integrated into the structure of the headstock, the suspension significantly improves driver comfort during the turnaround and transport phases while protecting the plough and the tractor.

A mechanically welded structure

The MASTER L mounted ploughs retain all the strengths that are key to the MASTER 123, 153 and 183 series. The mechanically welded structure offers the best longevity performance to the MASTER L plough:
  • The one-piece headstock is designed to accept up to 300 hp.
  • The specific shape of the linakge allows a maximum offset to be reached without penalising the plough's weight.
  • The reinforced structure stiffens the entire structure beyond the centre of gravity.
The frame design reinforces the robustness of the MASTER L:
  • The use of stronger steels helps lighten the plough without reducing its performance.
  • The optimal weight distribution limits the pitching torque for stability and manoeuvrability of the VARI-MASTER L when moving.

A system of variable width, 100% integrated into the frame

A KUHN exclusive, the variable width linkage of the VARI-MASTER L is fully integrated inside the beam. No need for maintenance since the system is fully protected against external aggressions, shocks or corrosion. The reduced maintenance required saves considerable time and money and ensures the profitability of your VARI-MASTER L plough. The variable width cylinder is a memory cylinder that remembers the cutting width at every turnaround. In addition, the replacement of the first body is automatically based on the cutting width. VARI-MASTER L ploughs means you can instantly and effortlessly adapt to your working conditions.

High quality parts to repel wear

KUHN provides you with high quality wearing parts manufactured and forged in our factories. The mouldboards of the VARI-MASTER L benefit from TRIPLEX technology with uneven layers. TRIPLEX is a KUHN exclusive, guaranteeing you ploughing of very high quality and an unequalled wear reserve. It consists of three layers of different hardness and different thickness to optimise the wear resistance of the mouldboards:

1.  The 3.3mm wearing face consists of a thicker and extremely hard layer to maximise the longevity of the board.

2.  The 2.3mm central layer is softer to absorb shocks and allow for some deformation

3.  The last layer is a very thin and hard layer to maintain the structure and rigidity of the board

Combined with heat treatment, the uneven-layered TRIPLEX guarantees your mouldboards up to 40% longer life. The points and shares are forged to push the limits of wear while maintaining optimal penetration capacity and very good working of the plough bodies.
