Primor 5060

Kuhn’s 5.5 cubic metre capacity Primor 5060 dual purpose forage feeding and straw bedding machine is capable of carrying three 1.5m diameter round bales simultaneously.

This machine has all the same design features as the smaller Primor 3560, but has greater carrying capacity within the body and an innovative facility for lifting the second round bale off the conveyor whilst the first bale is being distributed (see attached diagrams below).

“This machine has the capacity to carry two round bales within the body and one more on the loading gate, and is equally capable of operating with large rectangular bales,” explains Kuhn’s technical sales manager Robert Garthwaite. “The second bale can be lifted off the feed conveyor by laterally positioned clamps on either side of the body, so avoiding the risk of jamming if this standby bale was continuously pushing against the first bale. This also means there is reduced stress on the conveyor and the overall power requirement of this larger machine is only marginally greater than the smaller model.”
The key to the Primor’s ability to chop and distribute straw and silage is a robust two-speed gearbox. This is typically operated at its lower rate mainly for silage and at the faster rate when distributing straw. Power is transmitted from the gearbox through a shaft, which in turn drives a power-band system which is engaged/disengaged using a hydraulic cylinder. The power band is significant, as it provides high horse power transmission to the distribution beater rotor, whilst also acting as a safety device.

Distribution of silage is via a side chute, which has a maximum discharge height of 1.9 metres. Straw can either be spread from the same side chute - up to 18 metres - or through an optional 2.75 metre high 310-degree rotating chute, which can throw material up to 12 metres from the machine.

The bed chain conveyor operates independently to draw material into the beater rotor. This can be operated at varying speeds, and put into reverse, to control the flow of material into the distribution area.

The rear door of the Primor is hydraulically controlled, allowing self-loading if required. All functions are controlled electronically, from the tractor cab.

Kuhn recommends a minimum tractor horsepower requirement of 70 hp when the Primor 5060 is used for silage or haylage type forages.
